The Arab Fisheries Group has been developing extensive plans for the creation of a large-scale cage farming operation in an area of the Red Sea known as Abu Matan Reef, North of the Port of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
The project has thus far assessed a number of suitable sites and undertaken varying degrees of sampling and data collection with a view towards understanding the environment that we would wish to develop. As the areas under consideration are all classed as areas of ecological importance, we have opted to develop a strategy that allows for the development of a project that works with the environment.
The cage farming project was initially conceived as a highly intensive project that would see a large number of cages placed closely together for ease of access. On the advice of our consultants, the AquaBioTech Group, this strategy has been abandoned and we are now looking at a development that is based over a much wider area and is anticipated to reduce the impact of our operation.
